Week 5 Recap
Week Record: 1-0-0
Season Record: 8-7-0
✅ SF +3 — WIN
Seahawks 29, 49ers 32
My Take: What a wild game. The final score shows that the 49ers won by 3, and since we were +3.0, it probably sounds like an easy cover. That was far from the entire story.
To start the 4th, the Seahawks led 26-21. Then came a 12 play, 74 yard drive from the 49ers that was capped off with a Brandin Cooks touchdown reception (yeah, he's still playing). The 49ers went for two, which they converted (thanks in part to aa DPI on the original attempt). 49ers lead 29-26. Then came a Seahawks field goal, and the 49ers answered with a field goal of their own. Now the Seahawks are down 3, but there's 1:56 left on the clock.
Thanks to an illegal block, the Seahawks had to start on their own 15. The next play was a 35 yard completion to - you guessed it - Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Now we're at the 50.
Three straight incompletions (which included an uncharacteristic JSN drop) brought up 4th and 10. Darnold drops back to pass, completes to Cooper Kupp, who proceeds to gain 9 and half yards. He was legit inches from the first down marker, with some even thinking that he got the first down. But the ruling on the field was that he was short, and there wasn't enough to overturn it. Ball game.
