Week 6 Recap
Week Record: 0-1-0
Season Record: 8-8-0
❌ NYG +1.5 — LOSS
Saints 34, Giants 27
My Take: Believe it nor not, it was 10-10 at the half.
The next drives went as follows:
-Saints touchdown
-Giants 3 and out
-Saints touchdown
-Jameis interception
-Saints field goal
-Giants punt
-Saints punt
-Jameis interception at their own 21
At this point, Winston is benched. There's 11:31 to go in the 4th quarter. 2 plays later, the Saints score another touchdown to go up 34 - 10.
It got uglier. JJ McCarthy comes in and throws an interception 5 plays into the next drive. Then, believe it or not, shit started to turn for us.
It started with Saints running back CJ Donaldson fumbling at their own 49, giving the Giants the ball at midfield.
Then came
-Giants touchdown
-Saints 3 and out
-Giants touchdown (on just 3 plays, 73 yards)
-Saints 3 and out
-Giants field goal
-Saints 3 and out
Now it's 34-27, but there's just 51 seconds left. The Giants managed 57 yards on the drive, but they turned it over on downs on the Saints 14. Close, but no cigar.
In the 4th quarter, JJ McCarthy gained 243 yards (11/21 passing, 52.4%, 8.5% above expectation). He had an additional 26 yards rushing. He led the team in both passing yards and rushing yards despite playing 1 quarter.
Other big time performers: Malik Nabers had 15 targets, 12 catches, and 165 yards. DJ Reader had a pressure and 7 run stops. Abdul Carter had 4 pressures.
